The University of Bonn (German: Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn) is a public research university located in Bonn, Germany. It is one of the leading universities in Germany. Among its notable alumni and faculty are seven Nobel Laureates, two Fields Medalists, twelve Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize winners and etc.



Set up in 2014, the HIFU Unit at the University Hospital Bonn is led by Prof. Holger Strunk and Associate Professor Milka Marinova. The HIFU system has been mainly used for the treatment of the most challenging cancer--pancreatic cancer. Up to early 2020, around 160 patients with pancreatic cancer have been treated in the University Hospital Bonn, benefiting from HIFU therapeutic efficacy in volume reduction, pain relief, improved survival and quality of life, which has been reported and published in Deutsches Ärzteblatt, the official magazine of the German Medical Association (Bundesärztekammer) which has the broadest influence in German medical community, and Ultraschall in der Medizin, which is the most widely read interdisciplinary ultrasound journal.
